Strand A – Training and Development
Embracing Shared Communities Project: Strand A – Training and Development
Strand A will include:
The provision of training to Primary and Post Primary Teachers throughout County Monaghan to support the delivery of peace-building resources for use in the classroom. These resources have been developed by working groups of local primary and post-primary teachers and have strong links to the curriculum as it is currently constituted in our schools.
At primary level the resource is entitled “About Me, About Us” and at post-primary, entitled “Peace Together”. Commencing in September 2012, Primary and Post Primary Teachers will be introduced to the resources through training sessions held in both Monaghan Education Centre and local schools.
Provision of a Training of Trainers, Peer Education Programme to Transition Year Students throughout County Monaghan to build their capacity, skills, confidence and knowledge to design and deliver a Peer Education Programme with their schools. Promoting inter-culturalism, fostering models of mutual respect and understanding.
Provision of workshops to parents of school age children to raise their awareness of cultural diversity and peace building. To enable parents to become familiar with the key concepts of mutual understanding and acceptance of difference and ensure that the learning from the classroom can be reinforced in the home.
