Child Protection Seminars – Primary
As you are aware, the Department of Education and Skills issued the Revised Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools in December 2017, underpinned by the revised guidelines ‘Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017’. The PDST therefore was also required to update its range of supports for schools, in line with the revised procedures and new guidelines.
All Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) and Deputy Designated Liaison Persons (DDLP) are now invited to attend a Child Protection Seminar in your local education centre. These seminars will specifically focus on the role and responsibilities of the DLP/DDLP including liaising with external agencies, supporting staff, reporting to Tusla, communications with the Board of Management /parents, curriculum implementation etc.
It is intended that in advance of this seminar, the DLP and DDLP will have engaged with both of PDST’s E- Learning Programmes in preparation for the training:
(a) Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017 – eLearning Programme for All School Personnel (duration 1.5 hours)
(b) Risk Assessment and the Development of Child Safeguarding Statement (duration 1 hour)
These will be available at www.pdst.ie/ChildProtection.
Places on this seminar (based on revised procedures) are strictly reserved for DLPs and DDLPs only.
Please see the schedule of seminars overleaf for booking details.
The Department of Education and Skills will facilitate substitute cover where necessary.
You may wish to look at the child protection section of our website at www.pdst.ie/childprotection. It contains relevant documentation as well as the ELearning Programmes, which you may find useful for sharing with staff.
|We request that you bring your own copy of the Revised Child Protection procedures to the training day. These are available on www.pdst.ie/childprotection|
