ICTA Overview
The following ICT advisory services are available to your school as outlined in the brochure above and in an INTO interview at http://www.blip.tv/file/257986/. Meetings with Principals, ICT Coordinators, and whole school staffs can be facilitated. Your local ICT Advisor can visit your school on request and discuss, advise, and demonstrate regarding the following ICT issues.

ICT planning to support teaching and learning in the classroom.Advising schools on ICT Planning in relation to ICT & the Curriculum, Staff Development, School ICT Culture, ICT Resources and Infrastructure and ICT Management & Implementation.

ICT grants expenditure. e.g. Networking in preparation for broadband including site surveys and the drawing up of individual "Request for Quote" documents for tender. Also advice on purchasing computers, laptops, data projectors, digital cameras, CD servers, etc.

Advice on classroom integration of ICTs.
Using ICTs in Project work. e.g. Using a digital camera/scanner/digital camcorder to enhance project work.
Other project ideas. e.g. Digital school calendar, school newsletter, diary, transition year ICT project, etc.
Students using Power Point to present curricular based projects. e.g. “Our Parish”, “The Normans”, “Mo Chlann” etc. -
Software – advice and demonstration of suitable age and curriculum appropriate software. Distribution of new software demo CDs etc when available.

Developing school Internet Usage.
Using Broadband Internet access in the curriculum.

- Computer Virus Protection - advice regarding obtaining, installing and regular updating of anti-virus software including the availability of free anti-virus software from the Internet. All schools are strongly advised to install and maintain up to date anti-virus on their school computer networks. NCTE have just agreed new academic pricing with Symantec for their anti-virus products at a significant discount to Irish schools. Schools purchase the anti-virus on a CD (Media Kit) and can buy licenses for each computer for 1 or two years coverage respectively. Schools then use the CD to install the anti-virus on the computers for which they have purchased licenses. For more information on the NCTE/Symantec deal and to download an order form click here.
